Treasonous Translations

An 8-Week Translation Workshop

Tuesdays, September 1 - October 20, 6-8 PM

“Translation may be impossible, but it can at least be essayed,” so writes Gregory Rabassa in his tongue-in-cheek translation memoir If This Be Treason: Translation and Its Dyscontents. In this 8-week course, we will be taking a look at impossible passages, the feelings that come up for translators when dealing with such impossible passages, before delving into possible solutions, workarounds, and experimentations—all to illuminate the monumental creative work that is literary translation. The 2nd half of the course will be devoted to workshopping participants’ translations of various levels of impossibility.

$270 Members/$335 Nonmembers
