A 1-Day Business of Writing Workshop

Ready to start pitching your book but don't know where to start? Join literary agent Nour Sallam for a hands-on workshop in crafting a compelling query letter.
This interactive workshop covers everything you need to know before submitting to agents, the anatomy of a query letter, and how to avoid the most common query mistakes. In the second half of the session, participants will be invited to put their knowledge to the test. Writers will break into groups to workshop each other’s query letters with direct guidance and feedback from Nour. The workshop will conclude with an open Q&A. Come with a draft of your pitch and leave with a polished query letter!
Note: You do not need to have a complete query letter to take this workshop, but we recommend having a written draft of your book's pitch on hand that you can workshop with other participants.

Nour Sallam has a BA in English Literature and Political Science from the University of British Columbia and studied publishing at Toronto Metropolitan University. As an Arab woman and an immigrant, she loves books that amplify joy and connection, or feature complex and nuanced narratives. She works on a wide range of fiction and nonfiction, and is drawn to compelling and accessible stories that give her what she calls “brain butterflies.” Nour is a member of the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA) and sits on the advisory committee of BIPOC of Publishing in Canada.

All MWPA workshops require advanced registration. We accept registration by phone, mail, and online via our website. We cannot guarantee registration in the final 24-hours before a workshop, and can rarely accommodate day-of registration.
