A 6-Week Online Memoir Workshop
Tuesdays: January 6 - February 10, 6 – 9 PM
The great poet Robert Pinsky writes, “A memorable poem gives its emotion a melodic shape. You want to hear it again and again and again.” This course is interested in translating our thoughts, experiences, and emotions into language that vibrates and hums and remains in the reader’s ear. Looking at poems by Louise Glück, Ada Limón, Ross Gay, Robert Pinsky, Carl Phillips, and Elizabeth Bishop, we will explore how to employ such poetic tools as prosody, idiom, tasteful rhyme, and syntax to create memorable poems that linger and sing. Each week we will discuss one such poetic device, and students will receive a generative writing prompt— the resulting poems will be workshopped online in small groups, and will receive extensive instructor feedback. The course will conclude with a discussion on revision, publication, and maintaining a writing practice beyond the classroom.
$325 Members/$545 Nonmembers
