Maine Crime Wave Workshops

Workshop 1: Query Letters with Jessica Berg

SATURDAY, may 30th, 10:20 - 11:10 AM

Literary agent and writer Jessica Berg, who frequently teaches, coaches, and posts about how authors can improve their approaches to agents, will work with a small group on what to do and what not to do with your query letters. In a post about how query letters are a little like speed dating, Berg writes, “You sit down. Someone starts talking. And within about ten seconds your brain quietly decides whether this is going somewhere because you’re looking for one small signal that the other person actually knows what they’re about. It’s the same with queries. There’s usually one sentence that tells me whether the writer understands the shape of their own book. When it’s there, everything relaxes. I can settle in and read.”

$20 per workshop for Crime Wave attendees; limit 15
