Zombie Gnomes in Space: An Introduction to Writing and Publishing Speculative Poetry

An ONLINE Poetry Workshop

ALL LEVELS

Speculative poetry might sound surprising, geeky, or even off-putting at first, but it's a genre with a long literary history that is eminently versatile today, tackling social, political, and environmental issues from other planets, on other planes of existence, highlighting non-human actors and narrators. By seeing our own challenges posed imaginatively and removed from the practical obstacles of everyday life, we might begin to envision new and different futures. Or maybe it's just fun to write about tentacled creatures from beyond our solar system, zombies at the bank, or robots dating our children. This course is an introduction to the joys and wonder of science fiction and fantasy poetry - what is often grouped under the umbrella "speculative." We'll cover some brief history, look at examples, write our own, and get an overview of publishing within this genre.

+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur online. The week of the workshop, attendees will receive the zoom link.
