Creating Suspense in Literary Fiction

A 1-Day Fiction Workshop

Thursday, July 23, 6-9 PM

Suspense is often deemed the purview of genre fiction -- thrillers, mysteries, horror. But all fiction, even the most literary, uses some suspense engine to keep the reader turning the pages. How do "literary" writers create suspense in their work? How do we keep the readers hooked to the next page? This seminar will provide a list of helpful techniques to create suspense in all of your fiction, with examples from Roberto Bolaño, Antoine Wilson, Benjamín Labatut, and others. Participants will come away with implementable strategies and techniques for their own writing.

$60 Members/$85 Nonmembers
