A 1-Day Business of Writing Workshop
Wednesday, February 4, 6 - 8 PM
Freelancing can be an excellent way to grab your first bylines, build a platform and share your work with a wider audience. The current media landscape, however, can feel overwhelming and challenging to even the most seasoned writers. What outlets still take freelance pitches? Which ones are the right ones for your work? And with traditional outlets shrinking, what other opportunities are out there to get your work published?
In this class, full-time freelance writer Ines Bellina will guide participants through the ever-changing world of freelancing. Together, they’ll discuss the following topics to find out what the best path forward is: Does freelance writing fit in with your career goals? How do you pitch a story and how do you find outlets that may be interested in publishing it? What outlets exist beyond newspapers and magazines? Is launching your own platform, like a newsletter, worth it? If so, what are the best ways to go out about doing so? What are some resources writers have at their disposal? And the big one: how do you deal with the money matters that arise?
