A Workshop on the Structures OF Mysteries and Thrillers at the Maine Crime Wave
Structure is the bones beneath your novel or story, holding your plot, characters, settings, and themes together. It is usually unseen by casual readers and often used only subconsciously by newer writers. Nevertheless, like you, without a skeleton your story would be just a bag of goo on the floor. In this workshop we will cover what story structure is, examples of common structures for mysteries and thrillers/suspense novels, and how you can use a conscious knowledge of structure when drafting or revising your novel or whenever it makes sense in your particular process.
