How to Join
The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance understands that writers, editors, publishers, scholars, and other literary professionals comprise many income levels. With that in mind, we have established rates that will work for everyone. We encourage you to join at the level that best suits you and your needs. If you have any questions about our membership, do not hesitate to contact us.
There are three easy ways to join the MWPA:

Membership Rates
STUDENT
{$25} You will receive all the benefits of the Standard Membership listed below. Student memberships are only available to undergraduate students age 25 or younger; please include school name student ID number on the application form.
STANDARD
{$35–$99} You will receive a subscription to the MWPA’s quarterly magazine (Maine’s only literary trade publication); weekly emails with news, stories, new publications, community information, and event listings; discounts at bookstores across the state; member discounts on all MWPA programming; and a discounted subscription to Poets & Writers, the nation’s premier literary magazine.
CONTRIBUTING
{$100–$249} In addition to the Standard Membership benefits, you will receive assistance promoting your recently published book, or literary events and programs. The MWPA sends out press releases, helps promote author readings, and provides writers with guidance on marketing and publicity strategy, among other benefits. As a member of Maine News Direct (a service of the Maine Public Relations Council) MWPA will send your press releases to more than 100 Maine media outlets in print, radio, and television. [*Members are responsible for calling or emailing the MWPA office to discuss their press release, sending a draft of the press release, and sending a digital JPEG image.]
SUSTAINING
{$250–$999} In addition to the Standard and Contributing Membership benefits, you will receive critical feedback on your writing or manuscript from either an MWPA staff member or someone from our network of affiliated writers, editors, and literary professionals. The MWPA will also work alongside you to help set up readings and events to promote your published work. [*Feedback will be limited to 10 pages of prose or three poems, and a half-hour phone or in-person conversation.]
PATRON
{$1,000 and up} In addition to all of the benefits listed above, Patrons receive one of the following: an invitation to attend Fall Writing Retreat weekend free of charge (a $450 value), an invitation for you and a guest to attend our annual Literary Garden Party as co-hosts (a $350 value), or up to $450 in additional discounts on all MWPA programming for a year.

Membership in the MWPA is not just about the benefits and services we provide—it’s about supporting Maine’s only statewide organization working to advance the literary arts.
